Style: Sakunami-kei
It originated in Sakunami Onsen, Miyagi Prefecture. It is made from a single piece of wood, and the body design is dominated by plum and crab-flower chrysanthemum (Kiku) blossoms. The dolls have disproportionately larger heads. Sakunami dolls are only made from Mizuki, a very pale, fine-grained variety of dogwood. Sakunami kokeshi has a history of over 150 years.
